Black & Veatch announced it has completed work on the Sunrise Power Project, the first major power plant to go online in California in more than a decade.

The plant, a joint venture between Edison Mission Energy, an Edison International company, and Texaco Power & Gasification, began commercial operation more than one month ahead of schedule. It is providing much-needed power to the local grid for the peaking summer season. The simple cycle, gas-fired plant, consisting of two GE 7FAs and capable of 320 MW, began commercial operation on June 27.
