Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association has chosen Hunt Technologies to supply an AMR/AMI solution for the utility's 53,000 retail accounts.

"AMR technology is an important part of our plan to continue providing members with the next level of reliability and service, while improving the efficiency of our day-to-day operations," said Chris Lantto, W-H board chair.

Wright-Hennepin provides electric power to much of Wright County and the western part of Hennepin County about 30 miles northwest of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The utility plans to begin deployment of Hunt's two-way, power line carrier-based TS2 system immediately.

The TS2 system provides continuous communication with each meter on the system for accurate, daily reads, and allows remote programming from the utility office for such functions as time-of-use billing, load control and remote disconnect of service. Another benefit is the wide selection of meter platforms the TS2 system is compatible with.

"We wanted a system that could take us into the future and be flexible enough to provide the features we need to stay competitive," Vogt said. "And compliance with the Energy Policy Act provisions for smart meters is an example of technological leadership Hunt provides."
