International engineering consultants PB Power (PB) will be acting as HVDC Technical Advisor to EirGrid on issues relating to procurement and system integration of the Ireland-Britain Interconnector project.

PB’s cable, overhead line and substation experts have extensive experience in projects of this nature, including roles on the Caprivi HVDC Link Interconnector between Namibia and Zambia, and the Basslink HVDC subsea interconnector between northern Tasmania and Victoria, Australia.

The PB team will be supported by two subconsultants: AndersenPES, including HVDC expert Dr Bjarne Andersen, and PowerSure Technology Ltd, including cable expert Roman Svoma.

EirGrid, the independent Irish electricity grid operator, is developing the subsea interconnector working closely with the Commission for Energy Regulation in Ireland, and will own the interconnector following completion. The 500 MW interconnector will increase security of supply and competition in the Irish electricity market, and is due for completion in 2012.
