CenterPoint Energy Reports Progress on Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative
CenterPoint Energy has released an update on its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative (GHRI), reporting progress on efforts to strengthen the electric grid across its 12-county Greater Houston service area.
As of Sept. 30, nearly 3,000 crew members were working on GHRI projects across the Greater Houston area. The company has installed more than 83,500 storm-resilient poles, cleared more than 14,000 miles of higher-risk vegetation near power lines and undergrounded more than 900 miles of power lines.
Based on the progress of the resiliency program, CenterPoint projects that GHRI improvements will prevent 150 million customer outage minutes in 2026 while also improving day-to-day reliability.
"Our historic GHRI progress continues, and we remain focused on building a more resilient and reliable grid for the millions of customers we are privileged to serve. Across our great city, hundreds of our crew members are working every day to strengthen our infrastructure, and we will not stop until we build the most resilient coastal grid in the nation," said Nathan Brownell, CenterPoint Energy's Vice President of Resilience and Capital Delivery.
GHRI Progress
Since the GHRI launched in August 2024, CenterPoint Energy has completed the following resiliency improvements:
