Linemen keep the power flowing to homes and businesses and work in severe conditions to restore electricity following storms. Once a year, however, they travel to Kansas City for the International Lineman's Rodeo.
To celebrate the line trade during the "Lost Rodeo Year," due to the COVID-19 pandemic, T&D World and Utility Products magazines and the International Lineman's Rodeo Association (ILRA) are presenting the 2020 Lineman Celebration Week from Oct. 12-17. Each day, we will present prizes to those who engage in different activities.
For example, here is a rundown of the week:
Medal Monday: Watch the Top Tools of the Trade video on the International Lineman's Rodeo Association Facebook page and like and comment on it for the opportunity to win a Pro Dry Tech hoodie from True North Gear or Cabela's gift cards from IFD Corp. The video, moderated by Max Fuentes, will showcase the category winners and announce the Top Tool of the Trade, which was selected in an online poll by our subscribers. .
Tools & T-Shirt Tuesday: Look for special videos from our sponsors. Also participate in our "Give a Shirt, Get a Shirt" promotion by uploading a photo of a T-shirt from a past Rodeo to our online form. We have a limited quantity of the shirts commemorating Lineman Celebration Week thanks to support from the ILRA and Lineman Barn. In addition, Bierer Meters is giving away a Handheld Power Supply with Storage Bag and a Jelco is offering a Camo Pack as part of their sponsorship of this day.
Weducation Wednesday: Max Fuentes answered questions from students in the line program at Metropolitan Community College of Kansas City in a video moderated by Field Editor Amy Fischbach. The video will be posted on the ILRA Facebook page and other social media channels. Those who like or comment on the video have the opportunity to win Cabela's or Bass Pro Shop gift cards from IFD Corp. This day is also sponsored by SensorLink Corp.
Team Thursday: Post a team photo from a past Lineman's Rodeo on the ILRA Facebook page or a video of "What it means to work as a lineman" for the chance to win a prize pack from Milwaukee Tool. The day is also sponsored by Lapco.
Food & Fun Friday: Submit recipes for an online photo gallery and eBook sponsored by Quanta for the opportunity to win a Cabela's gift card from IFD Corp or an Amazon gift card from Quanta.
Super Saturday: Sponsored by Jelco and Bierer Meters, Super Saturday celebrates the spirit of competition at the Rodeo. By engaging in this day's activities, you can enter to win a Yeti cooler, gift cards to Dick's Sporting Goods or tool bags from Bashlin.
