Entergy expects to make power available to the majority of southwest Louisiana customers affected by Hurricane Laura by Sept. 23. The utility expects to restore power to the remaining customers by Sept. 30.
At 4 p.m. on Sept. 14, approximately 48,500 customers remained without power in southwest Louisiana, down from a peak of approximately 93,000 outages. Entergy Louisiana had restored electric services to approximately 222,400 of the 270,900 customers who had lost power following Laura. Over the course of the storm and the restoration, the company had fixed 402,986 individual outages in Louisiana till 7 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Even as the restoration work was on, the utility was preparing for Hurricane Sally. The storm has the potential to bring high winds, torrential rains, high tides and coastal flooding to parts of southeast Louisiana, and power outages can occur. Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans crews and contractors were on alert and ready to restore power where it was safe to do so. While some work to restore power can be done on the ground, work in the air from bucket trucks cannot be performed in wind conditions of 30 mph or greater.
The utility advised customers in southwest Louisiana to check for damage to the electrical equipment on their premises and contact an electrician for repairs if needed. Power in areas where there has been the least amount of damage will be restored sooner. Entergy Louisiana said it was committed to repairing and rebuilding the electric system until every customer who was impacted by the storm had power available to them. The restoration timeframe would be updated as the work progressed.
