AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division has won an order worth approximately US$29 million with Hydro-Quebec, one of Canada’s main utilities, to improve load flow and increase power transit.

The deal is for the engineering and installation of two 660 MVAr, 735-kV rated Fixed Series Compensation systems banks at the Jacques Cartier substation to the north of Quebec City. These systems offer increased transfer capacity over transmission lines while improving stability and reducing energy losses.

In addition to this, AREVA T&D will also supply capacitor banks, varistors, spark gaps, by-pass breakers, current transformers and control and protection cubicles.

The Series Compensation system is scheduled to be operational by November 2011.
