Intergraph Corp. and S&C Electric Co. have announced a strategic alliance to deliver integrated self-healing solutions for the smart grid. By joining Intergraph's GeoMedia Product Suite, an integrated set of geospatial processing applications, and the S&C IntelliTEAM SG Automatic Restoration System, the alliance supports creation of an interoperable smart-grid electric delivery system.
The fully integrated system dramatically improves the ease of managing large-scale smart-grid deployments for electrical utilities. Scalability and effective data management are critical to the practicality of smart-grid installments.
"As smart-grid deployments increase in scale and complexity, tighter integration of data on system assets and system device configurations is essential to provide a complete system supporting both distributed intelligence and centralized control," says Mike Edmonds, S&C's Global Smart Grid Strategies Director. "With the integration of GeoMedia, IntelliTEAM SG now can access and employ the most up-to-date asset data while minimizing database maintenance. This makes large-scale deployments of self-healing technology more economical.".
S&C's IntelliTEAM SG Automatic Restoration System provides automatic fault isolation and service restoration to utility distribution systems, allowing power to be restored in seconds. Using distributed intelligence and peer-to-peer networking technology, IntelliTEAM SG accomplishes restoration quickly. Intergraph's GeoMedia offers the ability to access geospatial data in almost any form and bring an integrated geospatial view together, along with a broad set of analytic and editing tools. This geospatial view supports management and use of utility transmission and distribution assets by keeping data records current and accurate.
