ABB is releasing its latest UL certified ANSI digital switchgear portfolio. With complete control, flexibility and protection the new range offers a reduction in total cost of ownership and increased safety and space savings compared to conventional switchgear.

ABB’s ANSI medium-voltage digital switchgear is the latest product in the ABB Ability portfolio of connected solutions where digitalization of the protection and control system simplifies switchgear construction to increase safety and versatility.

Offering the opportunity to integrate SwitchgearMD technology for continuous and remote condition monitoring and self-supervision of the switchgear and its key components, the portfolio presents total protection, control, automation and performance monitoring to identify faults quickly and deliver timely maintenance for improved uptime.

“ABB’s medium-voltage, metal-clad digital switchgear helps create a safer and simpler system. On average, wiring is reduced by up to 50 percent or more allowing for potential cost savings. Meanwhile, a reduced footprint of up to 25 percent, coupled with reduced maintenance requirements and less downtime, further reduces the lifetime cost of ownership resulting in a more reliable system to provide consistent power distribution,” said Dick Jackman, Global Product Group Manager for ANSI MV+LV Switchgear, ABB.

“It is a perfect fit for environments such as oil refineries, utility substations and data centers, where a reliable power supply must be ensured and future-proofing the gear and its environmental impact is a priority.”

The ABB Digital switchgear portfolio also benefits from safety by design. The use of sensors helps eliminate hazards associated with open current transformers and ferroresonance in potential transformers. The simplified electrical construction helps lead to fewer internal points of failure, while reduced wiring errors enable faster installation and higher reliability. In addition, the reduced weight of all components makes handling of the equipment easier when onsite.

The ABB ANSI medium-voltage digital switchgear portfolio is available globally in all ANSI switchgear markets.
