Kamstrup A/S and Powel AS have announced a partnership that will enable utilities that are using both the Powel ELIN system and Kamstrup’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure to base the integration between the two systems on a standard adapter.

The combined solution will give utilities an efficient meter-to-cash machine. Powel ELIN is a vendor-independent system that collects and manages consumption data, alarms and events from virtually any utility meter or submeter using open protocols. Kamstrup’s AMI consists of an open, interoperable head-end system, a scalable and future-proof wireless communication infrastructure and smart meters.

Lars Lindström, product manager at Powel, explains: “For a number of years, we have integrated Powel ELIN with Kamstrup smart meters via meter and communication specific adaptors. It is time to move to state-of-the-art integration as both Powel ELIN and Kamstrup’s AMI are interoperable and can easily communicate with each other via web services.

The adapter will be available in a “basic version” supporting the meter-to-cash process via integration between Powel ELIN and Kamstrup’s head-end, Kamstrup UtiliDriver, and in an “extended version” which adds integration with smart grid, distribution management systems, and SCADA. The “extended version” will take advantage of the push alarm functionality in Kamstrup’s smart meters and in Kamstrup UtiliKeeper used for monitoring and control of secondary substations.

The basic version of the adapter is scheduled for release in Q4 2012 and the extended version in Q1 2013.
