Black & Veatch is providing project support for The Detroit Edison Co.'s Echo Wind Park in Huron County, Michigan, U.S. The wind park will feature up to 70 wind turbines able to produce up to 110 MW of wind energy, helping the utility comply with the state's mandated 10% Renewable Portfolio Standard by 2015.
The project, located on a 16,000-acre (6,475-hectare) site, includes a substation and a 120-kV transmission line. Black & Veatch previously conducted wind resource assessments and wildlife studies for the site.
In the role of owner's engineer, Black & Veatch will develop technical specifications and drawings for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) document and help the utility evaluate EPC bids. Black & Veatch will provide overall wind development consulting services and will participate in design reviews and weekly progress meetings with the EPC contractor. Additionally, the engineering firm will conduct a project acoustical noise assessment and an environmental study, manage an additional wildlife study and provide permitting services.
