Eaton Helps China Complete Clean Energy Infrastructure Project

Jan. 22, 2021
As the COVID-19 situation improved in China, Eaton helped move the Qinghai-Henan ultra-high-voltage direct current project forward with the rapid delivery and commissioning of capacitors.

Power management company, Eaton, is helping the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) add more renewables to its grid.

As the COVID-19 situation improved in China, Eaton helped move the Qinghai-Henan ultra-high-voltage direct current (UHV) project forward with the rapid delivery and commissioning of capacitors.

The project will enable SGCC to transmit 40 terawatt hours (Twh) of clean solar, wind and hydro energy over long distances to help reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 29.6 million tons each year and significantly improve energy availability in central China.

“Eaton has taken the Everything as a Grid approach to the energy transition and is helping customers strategically manage the addition of more renewables to their energy mix,” Howard Liu, president of the Asia—Pacific region for Eaton, said in the Dec. 17, 2020, statement. “The Qinghai-Henan project is vital to supporting growing power demand and promoting development and utilization of clean energy. In spite of the manufacturing and shipment challenges caused by the COVID-19 crisis, we’ve compressed timelines and mobilized our teams to expedite installation for essential utility projects in China and in countries around the world.”

Utilities need capacitors to move power over long distances. Eaton capacitors are used around the world to support reliable power transmission and improve grid efficiency, increase capacity, and improve power quality.
