BLAINVILLE, Quebec, Oct. 20, 2008 – Kenworth Truck Company delivered a new Kenworth T370 diesel-electric hybrid truck to the Quebec Winter Games 2009 during a special ceremony recently in Blainville, Que.

The new Kenworth hybrid, which is one of the first medium duty hybrid trucks to go into operation in Quebec, was produced at the PACCAR plant in nearby Ste. Therese, Que. Ste. Therese Mayor Sylvie Surprenant, vice president of the Quebec Winter Games, received a large, symbolic truck key during the ceremony.

“Kenworth is proud to provide this special new Kenworth T370 hybrid truck to the Quebec Winter Games,” said Chakib Toubal Seghir, PACCAR Ste. Therese plant manager, who presented the key to Mayor Surprenant.

The Kenworth hybrid will be used to transport equipment and supplies to the various athletic venues in the three host cites of Blainville, Rosemere and Ste. Therese. The Quebec Winter Games 2009 will run from Feb. 27 through March 7, 2009.

The Kenworth T370 hybrid features a PACCAR PX-6 engine, integral transmission-mounted motor/generator, frame-mounted 340-volt battery pack, and dedicated power management system. Advanced powertrain controls monitor driving conditions and automatically select the ideal power mode, smoothly switching among electric only, combined diesel and electric, and diesel only power modes. Electricity generated through regenerative braking is stored and used for acceleration, assisting the diesel engine. The hybrid system is monitored through a dash display. As the power requirements for different driving conditions change, the screen constantly updates the driver on system status.

Kenworth offers the fuel-efficient, hybrid option on its T270 Class 6 and T370 Class 7 conventional models. Kenworth's goal is to enhance fuel economy by up to 30 percent in pickup and delivery applications and up to 50 percent in utility operations.
