Engineer of Record for Major Mid-American Energy Company Project

Leidos has been awarded a contract to serve as the engineer of record for one of Mid-American Energy Co.’s four major transmission expansion projects. Leidos will be a subcontractor to MYR Group to provide engineering, power delivery and environmental services for the 32-mile, 345/161kV double-circuit transmission line in Illinois.

The transmission line expansion project is designed to deliver dependability to the region and provide effective and efficient transmission solutions to meet expected growth in renewable energy generation. The project will improve system reliability and utilization of existing power generation, relieve existing transmission congestion and decrease the cost of delivered energy. The transmission line will also be designed to optimize wind-powered generation placement.

“At Leidos, our power delivery team not only improves efficiency and reliability for our clients, but we create critical power system interconnections,” said Jim Baxter, senior vice president for Leidos’ energy and systems solutions business. “This contract is a significant win for Leidos because it solidifies our leading reputation in transmission and distribution and boosts our high voltage portfolio and expertise. Our team will bring our proven solutions to meet MidAmerican Energy’s project goals.”

The Illinois transmission line expansion project is slated to go into service in 2017. Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, MidAmerican Energy Company provides electric service to 752,000 customers and natural gas service to 733,000 customers in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and South Dakota.
