Idaho Power Receives National Award for Employee Safety Efforts

Idaho Power’s safety achievements recently earned the company a national award. The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) presented Idaho Power President and CEO Lisa Grow with the Thomas F. Farrell, II Safety Leadership and Innovation Award in the Member Company Project category.

EEI selected Idaho Power for its approach combining psychological safety and behavioral safety with practical application of human performance principles.

“I’m so proud of our company and our employees,” said Grow. “Safety is one of our company’s core values, so it’s especially meaningful to be recognized for our work in this area.”

The award came after Idaho Power achieved its safest year on record in 2021. From office employees to field crews, Idaho Power has seen a decrease in injuries over the past few years.

The company attributes its success to dedicated employees and a culture of trust, openness, learning and accountability. The company also conducts regular safety training that focuses on vital behaviors, like speaking up, and teaching employees how natural brain patterns can work for or against safe work practices.

Idaho Power also offers presentations on safety to public groups and classrooms. Topics range from basic electrical safety to what to do around downed power lines. You can view offerings in their Community Education Guide at idahopower.com/learn.
