Tropical Depression Ida brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and some strong winds across Long Island and the Rockaways late Wednesday, Sept. 1 to early morning Thursday Sept. 2. The intense storm toppled branches, tree limbs and wires taking out power to approximately 24,000 customers. Tree trimming and line crews worked through the night to restore service. As of 7 a.m. Thursday, service was restored to more than 2/3 of the affected homes and businesses.
The municipal utility shared photos of the damage, along with restoration efforts.
