Utilities Mobilize for Historically Damaging Hurricane Season

Aug. 25, 2020
The NOAA forecast the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season will be extremely active, with as many as 25 named storms in this hurricane season

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) forecast that the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season will be extremely active, with as many as 25 named storms in this hurricane season. This is potentially double the storms of an average year. Of those, as many as 11 may become hurricanes, with up to six of them predicted to be major hurricanes of Category 3 or stronger.

According to NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center, this is more storms than the agency has forecast in its history.

At the moment, utilities are preparing for Hurricane Laura, which is approaching the Gulf Coast.
