Sensor Portfolio Supports Real-Time Monitoring Across Distribution Systems
As distributed energy resources, bidirectional power flows and power quality demands add complexity to electric distribution systems, access to accurate, real-time system data is becoming increasingly important.
G&W Electric has introduced its Accusense sensor portfolio, a collection of sensing technologies designed to support monitoring, protection, measurement and power quality applications across distribution systems.
A central component of the portfolio is the company's sensor validation process. G&W Electric uses accelerated environmental testing to simulate decades of field performance under real-world operating conditions. The testing is intended to demonstrate long-term sensor performance and address concerns about sensor reliability over time.
The portfolio includes sensors for recloser, switchgear and third-party platform applications. The sensors share several characteristics, including high-precision measurement, real-time data and application flexibility.
The portfolio combines G&W Electric's sensing technologies with active sensor designs that do not require correction factors or calibration. The sensors provide current and voltage measurements in a compact footprint and support applications ranging from protection and fault location to power quality monitoring and harmonics measurement.
David Carera, global product line director, sensors, at G&W Electric, said the testing and validation process is designed to demonstrate long-term performance before sensors are deployed in the field.
