G&W Electric Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Renovate a Home for Local Family

May 27, 2020
G&W has 100 employees set to volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity team during the summer to help build the home in the town of Joliet.

G&W Electric Co., a supplier of electric power equipment since 1905, last year partnered with Will County Habitat for Humanity to help renovate a home for a local Joliet, Illinois family.

“At G&W Electric, we are very passionate about finding ways to help people and always encourage employees to help support the local community,” said John Mueller, Chairman and Owner of G&W Electric. “I am so proud to have employees with big hearts and eagerness to help out anyway they can. We are not only helping the family receiving this new home but also the community by improving the neighborhoods.”

“Local companies like G&W Electric are integral to fulfilling our mission in Will County,” said Executive Director, Nicole Murray, Habitat for Humanity of Will County. “The time and commitment it takes for these companies to build or renovate these homes is extraordinary and we know a fortunate family will benefit from their dedication and commitment.”

G&W had 100 employees volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity team during the summer of 2019 to help build the home in the town of Joliet.

Renovation of the new home began on June 15, and the project was completed before the end of 2019. The two-story home is 1900 sq. ft. with three bedrooms and two baths. Once construction is complete, the home will be provided to a local family through an affordable mortgage, later this year.

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The Christian housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S., and in more than 70 countries.

For Will County, 30 years ago a handful of business entrepreneurs came together to accept the challenge of providing housing for underprivileged families. Their personal commitment ran so deep, that they involved the members of their families in the construction process.

Recognizing the importance of these noble efforts, the Will County Habitat for Humanity was officially formed. It is a legacy which we are building upon today, to offer a hand up, not a handout, to those willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity in the construction of their homes and to maintain their affordable mortgage to pay it forward.
