Open Systems International, Inc. has been awarded a contract by Columbia Water and Light (CWL) to implement a new Energy Management System (EMS) based on OSI's monarch (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) platform.
CWL started in 1904 with the mission to deliver reliable, safe and cost effective water and electric service while providing exceptional customer service and environmental stewardship. Formed by voter approval, the utility is run as a department of the city of Columbia, Missouri.
This new EMS system includes OSI's next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface, large scale SCADA functionality, Energy Management System applications including Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch, Market Operations System interface, Short-Term Load Forecasting, Load Management, Volt/VAR Control and an immersive Operator Training Simulator (OTS).
CWL is a locally owned municipal utility that controls the water and power supplies of Columbia Missouri and run as a department of the City of Columbia. The electric division delivers electricity to Columbia's grid and local and outside suppliers. CWL is in the control area of the Midwest System Operator (MISO) and manages a peak demand of 277 MW with 47,518 electrical customers.<
