Sept. 25, 2009
AREVA’s T&D division has won a contract in a consortium with Usluel Energy worth approximately €20 million from the Turkish Electricity Transmission Co. (TEIAS) for the design, supply, delivery, installation, on-site tests and commissioning of 380-kV and 154-kV Gas-insulated Substations (GIS).

AREVA T&D will also supply Power Transformers from its manufacturing unit in Gebze, Turkey. Financed by the World Bank and located in Yenibosna, Istanbul, the project is aimed at strengthening Turkey’s national grid to handle increasing demand for electricity. The new GIS will replace an existing 154 kV Air-insulated Switchyard.

AREVA T&D is supported by its consortium partner, Usluel Energy, which will carry out the civil works and erection, with delivery scheduled for the end of 2010. This project builds on a growing list of AREVA T&D’s other successes in GIS in Turkey - in Umraniye, Altintepe, Alsancak, Mancarlik, Yenikapi - as well as on the 380 kV GIS turnkey project awarded to AREVA T&D in 2008 by Eren Energy for its Zetes Thermal Power Plant.
