For the timely power delivery from the three hydropower stations, The State Grid corporation of china (SGCC) has planned to carry out the Jinping-Sunan Project, Jinping Power Group 500-kV AC Output Project, and Tongli Converter Station’s AC Interconnection Project. " In order to ensure the timely delivery of the power from the hydropower station in Guandi and Jinping and alleviate the power shortage effectively in Eastern China, we will further clarify the objective of Jinping- Sunan ±800-kV UHV DC Transmission Project to ensure its bipolar operation in 2012." Vice Executive President Zhen Baosen stated during a construction meeting in Yulong Converter Station in Xichang, Sichuan, where the project started.
The Jinping-Sunan Project is another UHV DC transmission project after the Xiangjiaba-Shanghai UHV DC Transmission Demonstration Project. The Jinping-Sunan project starts at Yulong Convertor Station in Xichang City. The 2089-km power line has a transmission capacity of 7.2 GW, picking its way through Sichuan, Yunnan, Chongqing, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui and Zhejiang towards Jiangsu. It is the DC project with the highest voltage, highest capacity and longest transmission distance. The Jinping Power Group 500-kV AC Output Project has a total investment of 5.7 billion Yuan, including 6 common-tower double circuits and one single circuit, equivalent to 1634 km in single circuit.
Zheng inspected the Yulong station in the rain and approved of the construction. He said Jinping- Sunan Project was a new stage for SGCC in UHV DC construction, a project for constructors to obtain progress following the spirit of “In Search of Excellence, in Pursuit of Out-performance.” The Jinping-Sunan Project has a higher domestication level than the Xiangjiaba-Shanghai Project. Currently, the project has entered a critical phase, which requires every department to enhance on-site coordination, emphasize quality and technology innovation, implement necessary security measures, keep a positive team spirit and speed up the overall operation progress. He stressed that in the light of the power shortage in East China next year, all departments should fully comprehend the project’s importance and the characteristics, placing it in an important position. Emphasis should be attached to the following: first, relevant units should coordinate the converter’s civil construction, line, auxiliary projects, design and equipment according to the new milestone plan; second, all departments should strengthen organization and leadership, establish regular coordination system, and work out detailed implementation plans for different tasks; third, great attention should be paid to production safety to ensure safety and quality, lessons should be learned from recent accidents, and safety measures are to be implemented in all aspects to achieve excellence.
Deputy Chief Engineer Li Wenyi, relevant departments from the Headquarters, DC Construction Branch, Sichuan Electric Power Company, and companies responsible for project supervision, design and equipment production attended the meeting.
SGCC and Ertan Hydropower Development Co. held a coordination meeting on the same day. Both sides indicated that they will work together to promote the construction of the Jinping-Sunan Project, Jinping Power Group 500-kV AC Output Project, and three output hydropower stations, in order to realize the power delivery of Sichuan hydropower to East China through the Jinping-Sunan Project.
