AREVA to Acquire VEI Power Distribution S.p.A.’s Medium-Voltage Activities

AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) division has signed an agreement with VEI Power Distribution S.p.A. to purchase its activities in Italy
and in Malaysia. Through this acquisition, AREVA T&D will strengthen its presence on the worldwide distribution market and acquire leadership positions in Italy and Malaysia for this segment, according to Philippe Guillemot, Chairman and CEO of AREVA T&D.

With 216 employees and 2006 annual sales of about 46 million euros, VEI Power Distribution S.p.A. specializes in manufacturing medium-voltage
equipment. Its products will complement AREVA T&D’s offering and enable the division to target a broader customer portfolio.

VEI Power Distribution S.p.A.’s strong innovation capacities will also strengthen AREVA T&D’s ability to continually provide the most up-to-date solutions that meet its customers’ specific needs. Each year, VEI obtains numerous patents for its innovations, one of which being its three-function device integrating a circuit breaker, a disconnector and earthing switch.

The acquisition is subject to the consultation of trade unions, in compliance with the applicable provisions of the law.

Guillemot said: “In 2006, the worldwide electricity distribution market grew approximately 7% to reach 8.1 billion euros. This acquisition will help AREVA T&D reinforce its offering and grasp significant growth opportunities.”
