Fifteen Connecticut Light & Power Company (CL&P) crews and support personnel are expected to arrive back in Connecticut this afternoon after spending more than two weeks helping hurricane-ravaged Florida recover from Hurricane Wilma.
On Oct. 28, the crews began their nearly 1500-mile journey to Florida to assist Florida Power & Light rebuild its electric infrastructure from the devastion of Hurricane Wilma. Crews spent much of their time in hardest-hit Broward County energizing substations, erecting poles and hanging electric lines to bring power back to the 310,000 residents of that county.
Approximately 3.2 million Florida Power & Light customers were affected by the hurricane, which tore through the state on Oct. 24 and affected nearly 60% of the company’s 35-county service territory. More than 18,000 line workers, tree trimmers and support personnel from around the country, including those from CL&P and its sister utilities Western Massachusetts Electric Company and Public Service of New Hampshire, helped with the effort.
