Hot Topic: Industry Initiatives on Responding to Physical Threats to the Electrical Grid

March 17, 2014
This is a special session to share how our industry has been proactively responding to physical grid threats and learn about recommended actions and practices.

Don't miss this special session at the 2014 IEEE PES Transmission & Distribution Conference that will share how our industry has been proactively responding to physical grid threats and learn about recommended actions and practices. The electric industry and regulators are working on best practices to better protect physical assets given the attacks last year on transmission facilities in Arkansas and California. While a suspect was apprehended in connection with the attacks on the Arkansas facilities, authorities have yet to arrest anyone for the California substation attack.

Utilities around the country along with the DOE and DHS have been focusing on how to provide better security to their infrastructure and plan to respond in case of future attacks. We will begin with PG&E sharing their response immediately after the attack on their 500 kV Metcalf Substation and their ongoing initiatives.

Two other industry leaders, Dominion Power and ComEd, will share their perspectives on how to deal with this vital grid and equipment security issue. We will conclude with learning from DOE on their overarching industry initiatives. Join us for this special session on the hot topic of physical security of the electrical grid!

The session will be on Wednesday, April 16, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at W375D.
