Getac Launches CommandCore: Advanced Drone Control Platform for Utility Inspections
Getac has introduced a new control platform designed to support drone-based operations across industries, including electric utilities, where remote inspection and monitoring are becoming more common.
The system, called CommandCore, combines rugged computing devices with software, accessories and control interfaces to create a configurable ground control solution for unmanned aerial, surface and ground vehicles. The platform is built around a Ground Control Station (GCS) that serves as a centralized hub for managing drone operations and processing real-time data in field conditions.
According to the company, the GCS can be configured using a range of devices, including fully rugged tablets, laptops and mobile workstations running Android or Windows operating systems. The system can also be deployed in multiple form factors, from handheld configurations to mobile command setups with dual displays.
The platform is designed to operate in harsh and unpredictable environments, with a modular architecture that allows users to adapt the system to different operational needs. It also supports integration with third-party drone technologies, enabling interoperability across different platforms and long-term system expansion.
For utilities, the system is positioned to support remote inspection of infrastructure such as transmission and distribution lines, substations and other assets. The platform allows operators to guide drones using predefined waypoints from a centralized location, while also enabling line-of-sight control in areas that may be difficult or hazardous for field crews to access.
The announcement reflects broader growth in drone adoption across utility operations, particularly for asset inspection and situational awareness in remote or high-risk environments.
