ComEd Crews Respond to Summer Storms
Severe storms recently rolled into ComEd's service territory. High winds, including possible tornadoes, downed power lines and led to fallen trees, broken poles and limbs on power lines.
Following the storms, ComEd crews worked around the clock to restore power to more than 370,000 customers. They focused on the hardest-hit communities, which experienced winds up to 96 mph.
Nearly 3,000 ComEd employees and contractors worked in the field to assess damage, repair equipment and restore service as safely and quickly as possible, according to the utility's Aug. 11 Facebook post.
While crews were pre-positioned ahead of the storm, damage across the region was extensive, the company stated.
A total of 370,000 customers were impacted by the storms on Aug. 11, and the utility estimated that crews could restore 80% of outages by Aug. 13 and about 99% on Aug. 15.
