2020: Looking Back on a Year in the Line Trade

Dec. 17, 2020
As we look for brighter days ahead, here is a look back at the field photos from the past year.

For linemen and their families, 2020 was likely a challenging year. Line crews went out on back-to-back storms, which caused untold destruction, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some linemen may have lost their livelihood or loved ones.

At the same time, however, linemen found ways to come together to support their brothers and sisters in the line trade. They also reached out to their communities to help those in need, and they worked together to get the power back on, even in the most dire conditions.

This photo gallery looks back at the past year of photos showcased in our full-page Parting Shot Department in our monthly field focused Electric Utility Operations (EUO) section. For more than a decade, we have honored the hard work of men and women in the line trade with our photo department, which shows linemen at work in the field.

If you would like to submit a high-resolution vertical photo for consideration, please email it to Field Editor Amy Fischbach along with a one-paragraph caption and the name of the photographer. We look forward to showcasing a photo of your line crew in 2021. Together, we can help put linemen in the well-deserving spotlight for their hard work and dedication to the line trade.

Also, look for details about the 2021 Lineman Life Photo Contest in an upcoming issue of our Lineman Life enewsletter, which comes out the first and third Friday of each month.
