High Winds Cause Outages in Las Vegas Valley
High winds and severe weather caused outages to a peak of 30,000 of NV Energy's customers on July 1 in Las Vegas Valley. The weather also damaged more than 50 poles throughout Las Vegas.
The next day, crews continued to make repairs to the system and restore power to customers as they were able to do so. As of 5 p.m. on July 2, NV Energy had about 1,235 customers without power related to the outage.
"We appreciate the patience of our customers as we do this work," the company stated on X. "Our crews are making progress to restore as many customers as quickly and safely as possible. They will continue to work through the night and into Wednesday."
To assist those residents impacted by the ongoing power outages, Clark County’s Office of Emergency Management and partner agencies put resources in place for those in need. Clark County has activated all cooling sites to provide temporary relief from the heat. An emergency shelter was also established at the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority.
