May 2010 -- Environmental Consultants, Inc. (ECI) is pleased to announce that J.M. Sparkman, Jr. has joined the ECI consulting team as senior project manager in Stoughton, Wisconsin. J.M. joins ECI with over 21 years of utility vegetation management experience and comes directly from one of the southern United States' largest electric utilities. His most recent position was the vegetation
management supervisor for the utility's eastern region.
J.M. began his career as a transmission forester for a large investor-owned utility in West Virginia where he became familiar with right-of-way clearing processes and procedures. In the next stage of his career, he worked for a major vegetation management contractor, assisting with the implementation of a new electric utility contract in Florida and afterwards became a contract forester, developing the utility's first comprehensive vegetation management plan for transmission rights of-
way. J.M. then went to work directly for the utility as an on-staff distribution vegetation management arborist.
J.M. is an ISA Certified Arborist and earned a bachelor's degree in forestry from Virginia Tech. He has extensive knowledge in all aspects of distribution vegetation management, serving more than 10 years as an area arborist before being promoted to systems analyst and later supervisor of the utility's project
management office. J.M. has also experienced many major storm restoration events, serving both in the field as well as in the command center where he provided acquisition, expenditure forecasting, and logistical support.
As an ECI senior project manager, J.M. will be responsible for the coordination, implementation, execution, and completion of consulting and forestry projects as assigned throughout the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
