SAN DIEGO – February 3, 2009 – Arcadian Networks announced today at the 19th annual DistribuTECH (Booth 219) that Mark Maddox has been named a board member of the GridWise Alliance, a consortium of public and private stakeholders aligned around a shared vision of a fully integrated electric system. Maddox will serve the GridWise Alliance board by delivering energy insights based on a distinguished 25-year career as a senior strategic policy, communications, and government relations expert.

Maddox brings perspective to the board from his role as chief strategist on government policy for Arcadian Networks, a company providing vital smart grid access for utility communications through delivery of 700 MHz licensed wireless IP communications networks. Maddox's experience serving as an Assistant Secretary (acting) at the Department of Energy (DOE), where he played a leading role in historic energy initiatives, makes him a valuable asset in assessing green energy initiatives of interest to the Obama administration.

President Obama's pre-inaugural transition team had asked the GridWise Alliance to project the number of jobs that would be created by government investment in the deployment of a smart grid. The GridWise report, released in January, projected 280,000 new jobs tied directly to the smart grid.

“The smart grid will allow information technologies to revolutionize the American energy sector the way they have transformed other aspects of business,” said Maddox. “It creates value for everyone involved by using technology solutions that cross enterprise and regulatory boundaries.”
