Electric power professionals were often attracted by the stability of the industry as compared to less secure higher tech, more mobile opportunities (aerospace, IT etc.). But in doing so they usually accepted lower salaries, although the benefits were terrific. However, in the last decade, as utilities move to 'smarten up' and 'modernize', engineers and other technologists have found themselves increasingly challenged by new technologies and work pressures.
