Richard Gaines became director of the New York Power Authority’s Integrated Smart Operations Center in October of 2016. Prior to his current role, he served as technical services supervisor at NYPA’s 930 MWe steam-electric power station, and as technical services planner, where he was instrumental in effecting a transition to a computerized work management system. Gaines holds a B.S. degree in thermodynamics and energy management from the State University of New York and has completed a Harvard Business School course of study on competing on business analytics and big data. He is licensed by the New York City Department of Buildings as a stationary engineer and is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers and the National Association of Power Engineers.
