IEEE Power & Energy Society Announces Mazana Armstrong as Candidate for Secretary
The IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Governing Board approved the following candidates for the offices of 2026/2027: President-Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary.
The IEEE PES Governing Board is responsible for the administration and management of Society affairs in accordance with the rules and regulations of IEEE and the Constitution, Bylaws and Operations Manual of the Society.
The voting membership of IEEE annually elects officers that serve on the top-tier IEEE governing bodies. The candidates comprise of members who have been nominated either by the nominating committee for that position or by petition.
The IEEE Board of Directors nominates candidates for IEEE President-Elect, and divisional and regional nominating committees nominate the candidates for the Division and Region Director positions. The annual ballot also includes candidates for positions in the IEEE Standards Association, IEEE Technical Activities, IEEE-USA, and IEEE Women in Engineering.
Mazana Armstrong
British Columbia Hydro, BC, Canada
Mazana Armstrong is the Manager of Transmission Stations Engineering Division at BC Hydro. She has close to 30 years of professional experience in operations, maintenance, and design of high-voltage electric power systems. Mazana’s professional contributions include standards development addressing electrical safety of the public, power utility workers and facilities in close proximity of electric power systems.
Mazana holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and a M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada. She is a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia.
Mazana has been an IEEE PES volunteer for over 20 years. Most recently, she served as IEEE PES Secretary (2024-25) and Vice President for Chapters (2018 -2022). Mazana is a Senior Member of IEEE and an IEEE Power and Energy Society Distinguished Lecturer.
Candidate Statement:
As a global organization, IEEE PES must take decisive actions to address the growing challenges facing the power and energy industry. From natural disasters and supply chain disruptions to unprecedented load demands, the industry is navigating a complex and evolving landscape. Strengthening our global technical community and member base is vital to advancing technology through standardization and knowledge sharing.
If re-elected as Secretary, I will continue to lead the PES History Committee. It is crucial to uphold our mission of fostering technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. As we near 150 years since the advent of electric power systems and the founding of IEEE PES, we must celebrate our history, honor our legacy, and reflect on our contributions while charting a forward-looking path that inspires progress and innovation.
The IEEE PES Constitution and Bylaws form the foundation of our Society. As Secretary, I pledge to uphold these documents and advocate for a diverse Board that adapts effectively, acts responsibly, and prioritizes the needs and interests of our members.
