I&M: Route Proposed For Approximate $12m Line In Indiana

July 24, 2020
The company said that construction on the project is expected to begin in summer 2021 and to conclude in late 2021

American Electric Power’s Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) on July 10 said that it has proposed a route for an electric transmission line as part of the Eastern Muncie Area Improvements Project.

The company said that its representatives determined the route after reviewing input from landowners and community members following I&M’s project announcement and public open house in late 2019.

As reported, I&M last October said that the approximate $12m project involves upgrading about four miles of transmission line from 34.5-kV to 69-kV standards to help enhance energy reliability in the area.

Much of the route follows the existing line parallel to the Cardinal Greenway, I&M said on July 10, adding that most of the portion that follows a new route will run parallel to the Greenway spur between Macedonia Avenue and the main Greenway.

The company noted that its representatives plan to talk with individual property owners in the coming months about what to expect before, during, and after construction. I&M said that as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the social distancing recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the company and its contractors are limiting in-person visits with property owners during associated field activities to ensure the safety and health of the public and company representatives.

The company said that construction on the project is expected to begin in summer 2021 and to conclude in late 2021.
