Sept. 19, 2022
Statements of interest may be submitted by project developers, electric utilities, federal power customers or others before Nov. 21

Western Area Power Administration is looking for partners to improve energy delivery in the West and address congestion issues at WAPA’s Mead Substation in southern Nevada.

Statements of interest may be submitted by project developers, electric utilities, federal power customers or others before Nov. 21. For more information on how to submit a statement of interest, read the Federal Register notice.

Of particular interest are submissions that propose:

  1. A partnership with WAPA to upgrade existing facilities owned by WAPA or construct new transmission facilities around Boulder City, Nevada, and near the Mead Substation energy trading hub.
  2. Potential agreements taking transmission service from or interconnecting to the upgraded or newly constructed transmission facilities.

More information on the applicable transmission facilities is located at the Open Access Same-Time Information System and the WAPA Desert Southwest website. Learn more about eligible loans and how to apply from the WAPA Transmission Infrastructure Program website.

This infrastructure includes WAPA Mead Substation near Boulder City, an important trading hub for wholesale power markets in the Western U.S.
