The Utilities Telecom Council and Spectrum Bridge Inc. have formed a partnership that makes it easier for utilities, other critical infrastructure providers and other spectrum users to access licensed wireless spectrum. By leveraging SpecEx, the online marketplace for spectrum, UTC can provide additional spectrum choices to its members and other frequency coordination clientele. With its extensive experience as an FCC-certified frequency coordinator, UTC can offer unbiased advice on buying or leasing spectrum to its customers.

“UTC is excited about the Spectrum Bridge partnership and the possibilities it brings for our members as well as all of our spectrum customers. SpecEx can help utilities meet various spectrum needs, from narrowbanding to smart grid implementation, and will benefit our other customers with similar expansion needs,” said William R. Moroney, UTC president and CEO.

Access to spectrum is more important than ever before as utilities and other entities embrace many different types of technologies that require spectrum use. SpecEx provides online access to the most comprehensive national inventory of available FCC-licensed spectrum. Spanning the range from 40 MHz to 40 GHz, UTC can help customers find affordable spectrum to support a wide range of applications including:

  • Point-to-multipoint wireless backhaul for substation control and data monitoring
  • Expanding capacity of constrained two-way radio networks
  • Wireless SCADA, security applications, telemetry and remote monitoring
  • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and wireless-based smart grid data applications

UTC and Spectrum Bridge will be jointly hosting the upcoming Webinar, “Effective Grant Writing Techniques and Spectrum Strategies for Stimulus Dollars” on June 17. Parties interested in improving their chances of submitting a winning stimulus grant proposal can register for this free Webinar at https://www2.gotomeeting.com/register/240622131.
