AT&T Inc. has announced a new three-year contract to provide integrated network solutions for Indianapolis Power & Light Co. With more than 80 years of service in central Indiana, IPL employs about 1,500 people to operate several offices; three primary generation plants in Martinsville, Petersburg and Indianapolis; and a peak- load facility in Indianapolis.

Under the agreement, AT&T will link IPL's locations across the state and monitor its network to optimize data communication through its Managed Internet Service Private Network Transport (MIS PNT) services. As part of AT&T's diverse Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network (IP VPN) portfolio, PNT provides any-to-any connectivity to link domestic sites to a single IP network that easily integrates new locations and applications.

Providing electrical service throughout central Indiana, IPL chose AT&T's network solution for its reliability and disaster recovery capability. Replacing IPL's current operations with a platform for any-to-any communication, AT&T's new wide-area network (WAN) services will optimize data transmission and flow among the offices. Additionally, the enhanced network solution incorporates IPL's disaster recovery center, delivering greater reliability and efficiency for its around-the-clock operations.

In addition to its MIS PNT services, AT&T also will provide an AT&T Business Network solution. With its fully integrated services including local and long distance under a single contract, AT&T Business Network offers cost efficiencies and greater agility in managing IPL's enterprise.
