Avineon, Inc., a provider of IT, engineering, geospatial and program management services, was externally appraised at Maturity Level 3 of the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), an internationally accepted standard for process improvement. Achieving a CMMI Level 3 rating demonstrates that Avineon's systems and software engineering solutions apply systematic, disciplined and quantifiable approaches, enabling results-oriented outcomes for clients. Having previously held Level 3 of the Software Capability Maturity Model (SW-CMM), Avineon continued its process improvement initiatives through an aggressive yet systematic approach, upgrading to the more comprehensive CMMI Level 3 in less than 13 months in all 18 Level 3 process areas.

Developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie-Mellon University, CMMI has become an international standard for measuring an organization's ability to effectively integrate process improvement. CMMI helps integrate traditionally separate organizational functions, set process improvement goals and priorities, provide guidance for quality processes and offer a point of reference for appraising current processes. There are five CMMI levels, ranging from an informal, initial capability (Level 1) to an optimizing process with continual improvement (Level 5).

Karlu Rambhala, president and CEO of Avineon, said "The government and military are fast requiring CMMI certification for all companies that bid on IT contracts. This rating positions Avineon to more effectively meet their requirements for quality management and process improvement."

Cynthia Torpey, an SEI-authorized Lead Appraiser from ChangeBridge, Inc., performed Avineon's Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) Class A appraisal. "Avineon's culture stresses the importance and value of quality processes, and it is evident throughout the organization. It has been exciting to witness Avineon's ISO 9001:2000 and CMMI software processes evolve and mature to this level," said Torpey. "In achieving CMMI Level 3, Avineon has developed and implemented innovative ways to meet the needs of its customers. They have been successful in avoiding bureaucratic processes that frequently hinder other high maturity companies."

Dedicated to delivering quality services to its customers, Avineon will continue its initiatives in software process improvement to quantitatively manage and optimize processes as the company moves forward to CMMI Level 4 and 5 certifications. CMMI is at the forefront of process improvement and allows Avineon to provide the latest best practices for product and service development and maintenance to its customers.
