The GridWise Architecture Council has elected four new members: Andrew Bordine, Ron Cunningham, Stuart McCafferty and Aaron Snyder.
Several GWAC members were also re-elected, including David Forfia as the chairman and the following as general members: Ron Ambrosio, Utopus Insights; Tanya Barham, Community Energy Labs; Ron Bernstein, RBCG LLC; Gerald Gray, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI); Stephen Knapp, Power Analytics; Lorenzo Kristov, Electric System Policy, Structure, Market Design; Farrokh Rahimi, Open Access Technology International; Leonard Tillman, Balch & Bingham LLP.
The new members were recognized at the GWAC Face to Face meeting held earlier this month during the AHR Expo at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
“It is humbling to be elected by my fellow members of the council to my fifth year as chair. I look forward to working with the new members, our continuing full and associate members, the emeritus members of the council, and the extended community of council meeting participants. The work of the council in 2020 will help the industry assess and adapt to the policy, economic, and demographic changes in the future,” said David Forfia, GWAC Chair.

Ron Cunningham — Ron Cunningham is an IT enterprise architect in the enterprise architecture and strategy group at American Electric Power (AEP), focusing on grid modernization architecture; IT/OT interoperability industry standards development and use; use of enterprise architecture frameworks, development and refinement of grid and IT architectural metamodels, system modeling, formal ontologies; enhancing cybersecurity and grid related telecommunication technologies and architectures.
Aaron Snyder — As the director of grid technology consulting at EnerNex, Aaron works with many utility and vendor clients on metering, AMI, smart grid and grid modernization projects, specializing in testing, metering, requirements, specifications, solution architecture and consumer issues. In recent years he has been supporting grid modernization projects (AMI, DA, microgrid, ADMS) in the USA, Middle East and West Africa. His work has been to support the utility teams in all aspects of strategy development, requirements, specification authoring, vendor interviews, procurement support (bidder evaluations) and pre-deployment support.
Stuart McCafferty — An accomplished smart grid technical executive with innovative history, strong relationships in the utility and vendor communities, business and partner development, platform and solution design, go to market planning and execution, and practical application of existing and emerging/disruptive technologies. He is a strategic thinker and planner that can adaptively execute successful campaigns and programs. He is a thought leader in the internet of things, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and connected home with practical application within the smart grid ecosystem.
Andrew Bordine — With two decades of experience designing, planning and leading electric system programs and software architecture, Andrew Bordine currently serves as vice president of energy markets and innovation for Anterix. In this role, he directs ongoing efforts to leverage wireless telecommunication networks to the benefit of utility providers within the energy sector while providing customer value. His position also involves partnering closely with state and federal regulators nationwide on critical infrastructure deployments.
The GridWise Architecture Council was convened in 2004 by the Department of Energy with support from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. As a volunteer council, the GWAC includes practitioners and leaders with broad-based knowledge and expertise in power, information technology, telecommunications, financial systems and other fields who are working together toward a coordinated GridWise vision—the transformation of the nation's energy system into a rich, collaborative network filled with decisionmaking information exchange and market-based opportunities.
