Open Systems International, Inc. has been awarded a new contract by Basin Electric Power Cooperative to implement a new Generation Management System based on OSI’s monarch platform.

Basin Electric is one of the largest electric generation and transmission cooperatives in the United States. By end of year 2013, Basin Electric will operate 4,824 MW of wholesale electric generating capacity and have 5,289 MW of capacity within its generation portfolio. Basin Electric owns 2,165 miles and maintains 2,250 miles of high-voltage transmission and owns and maintains equipment in 70 switchyards and 149 telecommunication sites.

Basin Electric’s new OSI SCADA/GMS system includes the advanced functionality presented by OSI’s next-generation, .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI); SCADA; Advanced Alarm Management System; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Historical Information System and Data Archiving; Inter-control Center Communications Protocol; Automatic Generation Control and Dispatch; and Market Operations System software products. This system was delivered in record time and has been put into operation.

Basin Electric generates and transmits energy to 137 member rural electric systems in nine states, including North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and New Mexico. These member systems distribute electricity to approximately 2.8 million people and encompass 540,000 square miles.
