Eversource is collaborating with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Housatonic Community College to groom the next cohort of electrical lineworkers in Connecticut. The Lineworker Certificate Program trains students in the electric utility industry and provides a path for them to enter the paid apprenticeship program of Eversource. IBEW Local Unions 420 and 457 will play a key role here on behalf of the union.
“We value our partnership with the Connecticut State Community College system and know it will help us train highly skilled lineworkers who will have strong employment opportunities after completing the course,” said Eversource President of Connecticut Electric Operations Steve Sullivan.
The 13-week certification program saw approximately 150 applications for 15 open spots. The students went through virtual classroom learning as part of the program. They also benefited from hands-on training at Eversource’s outdoor training facility in Berlin in the beginning of March 2023. The course provides training on safety, CPR and electrical theory.
“Through partnerships like this, we are able to quickly meet workforce needs in our community while our students prepare for in-demand jobs that pay family-sustaining wages,” said CT State Community College President John Maduko, M.D.
