One of the main benefits of ultrasonic meters are the diagnostics provided using the software from the manufacturer. Diagnostics are essentially the meter health data, so there is measurement data coming in from the meter, both on the ultrasonic side and the mechanical side of the meters. Mechanical meters will give measurement data, but don’t give the health data, such as if it is low on oil, has a nick in the impeller, or has liquid build up. By design, ultrasonic meters have the capability to show signal to noise ratio and path performance through meter health data. Many companies are pulling meter health data separately from measurement data, and many are doing this remotely via cellular modem.
