Sargent & Lundy Lands Horizon Wind Energy Contract to Interconnect Wind Farm to Grid

Sargent & Lundy LLC has signed a contract with Horizon Wind Energy to provide engineering services for interconnection of Phase 2 of the Twin Groves Wind Farm to the grid. Sargent & Lundy also provided the engineering services for grid interconnection of Phase I.

Sargent & Lundy LLC has signed a contract with Horizon Wind Energy to provide engineering services for interconnection of Phase 2 of the Twin Groves Wind Farm to the grid. Sargent & Lundy also provided the engineering services for grid interconnection of Phase I.

Phase I and Phase 2 of the Twin Groves Wind Farm project near Bloomington, IL are each comprised of 120 wind turbines. Phase 1 was recently placed in-service, and Phase 2 is scheduled for completion by the end of 2007. Overall, the Twin Groves Wind Farm is the first large wind farm in Illinois and will generate about 400 MW.

Sargent & Lundy's Phase 2 engineering scope of work includes designing a 34.5/345 kV substation at the termination of the wind generator collection system and several miles of 345-kV transmission line. Sargent & Lundy is also providing support to Horizon Wind Energy for procurement of material and equipment for the project, including preparation of technical specifications and request for bid documents, performing bid evaluations, resolving technical and commercial issues, and preparing purchase orders. Phase I engineering included a 34.5/345 kV substation, 345-kV transmission line, and a 345-kV 3-breaker ring bus adjacent to an existing 345-kV transmission line.
