PG&E is upgrading electric equipment to improve reliability for customers in Nevada County, Calif. The upgrades are under way throughout the Lake Wildwood community and will benefit about 3,400 customers in the area.

“This work to upgrade our power lines should result in fewer power outages and provide a safety benefit to the local community,” said Andy Navarrette, manager of PG&E’s Sierra Division. “We understand that any time we complete projects it affects our customers and we appreciate their understanding as we work to improve our electric system.”

The nearly $700,000 project to upgrade overhead power lines will be completed by the end of December, depending on safe weather conditions. Crews will replace 12 poles, upgrade power lines, prune trees and install new equipment to prevent animal contact with electrical lines. Infrared technology will also be used to proactively identify any potential trouble spots on electrical lines so they can be repaired or replaced before they fail.

To ensure the safety of customers, the public and employees, a temporary service interruption might be necessary. Any impacted customers will be notified in advance of planned outages.
