A refurbished, 69-kV transmission line was recently placed in service in southern Wisconsin by American Transmission Co. (ATC). The 18-mile Brodhead-South Monroe rebuild project involved replacing 60-year-old structures, wires and insulators. While the voltage of the line did not change, the new structures and conductors are designed to accommodate increased electric demand and support growth.

The age and condition of the existing line, which was built in 1950, necessitated the rebuild. The new line will make a vital improvement in the reliability of the electric transmission system serving the area and will help ensure that the south central Wisconsin area is served by a reliable electric delivery system in years to come.
