FirstEnergy’s subsidiary, American Transmission Systems has started upgrading four miles of a 69 kV transmission power line in Portage County, Ohio, to strengthen the regional transmission system and improve service reliability for about 2,000 Ohio Edison customers.

The upgrade from the West Ravenna substation to the Ravenna Substation, through Ravenna and Franklin townships, will not only comprise of replacing the existing wires, hardware and structures with new steel poles, wires and equipment but also improvise equipment at both substations.

While the new wires are capable of carrying more electrical load and provide greater customer demand, they can also transmit increased power flow during unplanned service interruptions on other lines in the area.

The project anticipated to complete by early 2024 will develop reliability for 1,900 Ohio Edison customers served by the Ravenna Substation.
