AEP Ohio To Seek Approval For Ohio Underground Project In November

Oct. 23, 2020
The company said that it anticipates completion of the project in 1Q23.

Ohio Power Company (AEP Ohio) recently filed with the Ohio Power Siting Board a pre-application notification letter regarding the Marion Road-Mound Street 138-kV Transmission Line Project.

As noted in the filing, the project involves building a new approximately three-mile, underground line within the City of Columbus and Franklin County. The purpose of the project is to replace the existing underground Canal Street-Marion Road 138-kV Transmission Line that must be removed from under Interstate (I)-70 to accommodate the Ohio Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) I-70/I-71 construction project.

The company added that the project would also address aging infrastructure associated with the existing underground transmission line, as well as help ensure the continued reliability of the transmission system.

The project would be built from the Marion Road substation to the Mound Street substation to deliver a third source into the Mound Street station. The company also said that it anticipates completion of the project in 1Q23.

AEP Ohio said that it expects to file an application for a certificate of environmental compatibility and public need for the project with the board in November.
