The Obama administration has officially launched its bid to throttle greenhouse gas emissions 30 percent by 2025, The Wall Street Journal reported this week.
Utilities reliant on coal-fired generation for many decades will be receiving their long-awaited federal power plant rules this summer. They are expected to reduce power plant emissions 30 percent between 2005 levels and 2030.
This effort has been categorized by opponents as a war on coal.
It may well usher in some of the most sweeping changes the utility industry has faced in a century, speeding deployments of renewables, distributed generation and a smarter grid to stitch it all together.
