Giving Back: SRP Celebrates 30 Years Supporting The Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Program
Salt River Project (SRP) is celebrating 30 years of partnership with The Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Program. This milestone also represents a record-breaking year for SRP employees, who adopted the largest number of children and families in the company’s history: almost 1,200 angels and 29 families, providing clothing, toys and essentials to those in need.
SRP employees donate their own money and time through the Christmas Angel Program to help ensure thousands of local children experience the joy of the holidays.
SRP is also going the extra mile to support the program by providing trucks and employees to pick up Christmas Angel toy donations from five malls and donation sites across the Valley. These donations will be transported to The Salvation Army’s warehouse for distribution. The effort began Nov. 25 and will continue through Dec. 18, ensuring thousands of gifts arrive on time for local children.
“For three decades, SRP has been an essential partner in making our Christmas Angel Program a success,” said Jeannette Aird, The Salvation Army Phoenix City Administrator. “From purchasing toys for hundreds of children to helping us collect donated gifts from malls across the Valley, their support is invaluable. We simply couldn’t do it without them.”
The toy collection initiative started after The Salvation Army faced challenges retrieving donations in 2023. SRP stepped in to help, allowing the nonprofit to focus its resources on preparing for toy distribution. So far this year, SRP’s Internal Logistics and Hauling team employees have collected more than 28,000 toys, traveled more than 5,000 miles and contributed 315 volunteer hours — saving The Salvation Army significant effort and helping ensure every child’s gift is ready for the holidays.
“This program is possible thanks to SRP and its employees who volunteer their time and resources to bring holiday joy to families in need,” said Jackie Terry, senior volunteerism and employee giving strategist at SRP. “Giving back has always been an essential part of SRP’s culture, and we’re proud to celebrate 30 years of adopting angels through The Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Program.”
This year, SRP employees have volunteered 1,162 hours to the Salvation Army's Christmas Angel Program. The volunteers prepared bags, labeled gifts, sorted toys, unloaded deliveries, assisted with toy distribution and more.
SRP is a not-for-profit utility that has served Arizona with affordable and reliable power and water for more than 120 years. The Salvation Army’s Christmas Angel Program is one of many ways SRP supports local families and nonprofits year-round.
